Directed in 1986 by Oliver Stone, Platoon is a tough war movie focused in Vietnam War. One volunteer went to combat with enthusiasms believing do the best for his country. But the harsh reality of war was very cruel and soon his ideals vanished.
With intense performance of Martin Sheen, Willem Dafoe and Tom Berenger, the story film was based upon Stone's experience in that war. It explains with realism the hardships of war and the difficulty of differentiating between right and wrong behaviors, in an extreme context where the struggle for survival and camaraderie are more important than the orders and military strategies.
I also want to highlight the soundtrack with a shocking Adagio for Strings (Samuel Barber), the soul song Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding) and the psichedelic rock song White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane).
Last, the movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1986, Oliver Stone for Best Director and Claire Simpson for Best Film Editing too.
