To the Stranger Things upset fans: Get over it!

Stranger Things Season 5, has dropped and finally given fans the much anticipated coming out scene for Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp. While there has been hints at Will's sexuality through the show, this is the first time the show has explicitly addressed his sexuality.

Schnapp said: "I think it is done so beautifully, because it's so easy to make a character just like all of a sudden be gay. They are writing this real character and this real journey and real struggle and they're doing it so well."

However, the internet is still abuzz discussing the episode which Will finally came out as gay to his family and friends. Five minutes of a gay character's coming-out scene just broke the internet, because of course it did.

For years, Stranger Things gave us straight romances: Mike and Eleven, Nancy's love triangle, Steve's dating drama, Dustin and Suzie, Lucas and Max. Hours of heterosexual flirting, secret girlfriends, and teenage angst.

Nobody called that an "agenda." Nobody review-bombed those episodes. When Mike spent entire episodes obsessing over Eleven, that was just storytelling. When Lucas risked everything for Max, that was beautiful.

Straight "moments" are everywhere, all the time, in every show. But give us five minutes, in a series finale, in a scene that's crucial to the plot, and the angry mob shows up screaming about agendas. Thanks Netflix for moments like that!

Trump will block trans care to children by targeting hospitals

Trump administration health officials announced Thursday that the federal government will block transgender care to children by targeting hospitals and doctors that provide it.

New proposed rules would prohibit hospitals from participating in Medicare and Medicaid if they provide care such as puberty blockers and surgeries for transgender minors, and would prevent federal coverage of such treatments.

“Allowing the government to determine which patient groups deserve care sets a dangerous precedent, and children and families will bear the consequences,” said Dr. Susan Kressly, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

It’s the latest in a string of actions by President Donald Trump’s administration that target transgender people, including eliminating mention of trans people on federal websites, halting data collection on health issues, removing trans people from the military and suing states that allow trans athletes to play on high school sports teams.

Meta shuts down global accounts linked to queer content

Meta has removed or restricted dozens of accounts belonging to queer groups in the past weeks in what campaigners call one of the “biggest waves of censorship” on its platforms in years.

The takedowns and restrictions began in October and targeted the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp accounts of more than 50 organisations worldwide, some serving tens of thousands of people – in what appears to be a growing push by Meta to limit queer content across its platforms.

Meta’s recent takedowns are part of a broader pattern of the company purging accounts. Campaigners say the actions indicate that Meta is taking its Trump-era approach to LGBTQ+ issues global.

This is not the first time Meta has apparently removed inoffensive LGBTQ+ content. Back in November 2024 several queer users and organisations reported their posts were being pulled from Meta’s various platforms.

Iran refuses to play first-ever pride match in FIFA 2026 World Cup

The authorities of Iran refuses to play the first-ever FIFA World Cup Pride Match celebrating the LGBTQ community.

The 2026 World Cup will mark Iran's seventh participation in the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The local organising committee in Seattle, Washington, where the fixture is scheduled to take place next year, had previously announced its intention to hold a "Pride Match" coinciding with the northwestern city's Pride Weekend in late June.

Pride events at sporting matches have become common in the United States for the very reason that supporting this “certain group” is necessary because of the environment around men’s sports in particular that has long made LGBTQ people feel unwelcome.

The head of Iran’s Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, said they raised objections against this decision, which he labelled an ‘irrational move that supports a certain group.'

Homosexuality is illegal in Iran under Islamic law and can be punishable by death.
